Top 10 Multi-tool Gifts

Multitools may just be the perfect gift. They are useful, thoughtful, affordable and don't take up much space. I've researched and tested many of the top multitools and put together this list, which is sure to match the needs of many gift recipients.

Leatherman Squirt - Powder Pink 1
Leatherman Squirt - Powder Pink
Available in multiple colors, the Leatherman Squirt series is a solid, compact tool for guy or girl. It fits in just about any sized pocket (even the "key" pocket in blue jeans). For a modest $20 or so, this is a steal.
Gerber Legend Multitool 2
Gerber Legend Multitool
Gerber manufactures some of the highest quality tools and blades available today. The Legend Multitool is their standard, not-too-much, not-too-little tool that provides a superior balance of functionality with comfort. They're running in the reasonable $60 range.
Leatherman Skeletool CX Multitool 3
Leatherman Skeletool CX Multitool
In the same market as Gerber, Leatherman is also known for their high-quality tools. The Skeletool has a cool look and is made of high-grade stainless steel. Interchangeable bits allow you to keep your most used bit head in the device at all times (philips-head, flat-head, etc.). The going rate is roughly $50.
Leatherman Micra Multitool 4
Leatherman Micra Multitool
This key-chain sized tool is packed with 10 different tools! It's available in several colors to fit any person's individual taste. It's currently available for less than $15, and would make a great gift or stocking stuffer.
Leatherman Surge 5
Leatherman Surge
Named "Best of the Best" for fishing and hunting by Field and Stream magazine, the Surge is an excellent choice for any outdoors person for around $60.
Leatherman Hybrid Gardening Multitool 6
Leatherman Hybrid Gardening Multitool
Instead of the traditional pliers, this multitool offers many tools with the primary being a pruner device. It's perfect for gardeners and landscapers so they don't need to carry an abundance of tools around.
Victorinox Swiss Army Classic 7
Victorinox Swiss Army Classic
The Swiss Army Classic Knife is probably the most widely used multitool on the planet. You'll find that it is more compact than most plier-based multitools, but still offers other necessary gadgets. It's also easy on the bank, selling in the $10-20 range.
Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus 8
Victorinox Swiss Army Champion Plus
Basically the Swiss Army Knife on steroids, this tool has it all. Similarly, it is a high-quality product crafted in Switzerland. This tool is great for backpackers and hikers who find countless uses for it. Available for around $30.
Winchester Small Wood Handle Tool 9
Winchester Small Wood Handle Tool
The stained wood handles on this Gerber built tool are strong yet comfortable. It features 12 tools plus a sheath, including the often-necessary beverage opener. Plus, it makes a great sub-$10 gift or stocking stuffer.
Tool Logic Multifunction Tool Card 10
Tool Logic Multifunction Tool Card
For those who aren't the tool-carrying type, a credit-card multitool can stow away safely in a wallet or purse for any given situation or emergency. It's discreet and affordable, pick one up for under 20 bucks.

Yes, there are a lot of multitools on the market, but with this guide, you should be able to pick out just the right one. Remember, some of these are available in other colors, and they're all built to last. One tool that I tested and do not recommend is the Leatherman Juice. With the two models I tested, the "corkscrew" tool has been easily displaced over just a few uses. Unlike the other Leatherman tools, the Juice just doesn't cut it.

Happy Shopping!
